Snails livestock at Ronco Briantino (Italy)

Helix Aspersa is the breed I chose for my livestock. This family has important organoleptic features that makes it particularly suitable for the food sector and for the production of first quality slime. The organic livestock, full cycle certified, is located in Ronco Briantino, in the location “Cascina Amore” from which my snails take their name. It is an open field, fenced in two different areas: area of production where the snails lay their eggs and they reproduce themselves, and the fattening area where the newborns naturally migrate to become adults.
The snails eat salads, chicory, cabbage knight, chard and sunflowers that are regularly sown in the enclosure where they are located. The extraction of the burr happens without causing any stress to the snails. After being washed with water and gently stimulated to facilitate the secretion of the burr, the snails are rewashed and brought back in the farm where they can feed in a quiet environment.
The snail slime is a unique secretion of its kind, used by the animal to move and for the protection against infections and wounds. It is rich of Allantoin, glycolic acid, collagen, elastin, exfoliating lactic acid, mucopolysaccharides, vitamins A, C , E, B1 and B6, free aminoacids, peptides, proteins, enzymes, and molecules with antiprotease activity. Thanks to this substance you can get excellent cosmetic products with regenerating, antioxidant, exfoliating and purifying proprieties. The properties of snail slime has been known since ancient times. In the middle ages and in ancient Greece it was traditionally used like a medicine as a cure for ulcer and as healing mean. It is also using to calm the cough and dissolve the phlegm in its syrup form.
